Industrial Water Treatment

We have maintained and improved several industrial water treatment plants with clients who are required to meet trade waste consent limits for their facilities along with construction sites who are discharging contaminated construction site run off.

These plants fall into several areas and often a combination:

pH Correction

Facilities which undertake Cleaning in Place (CIP) often have waste water with a pH above or below their discharge consent levels, as such some adjustment is required prior to discharge. These systems often need regular maintenance from instrument maintenance and calibrations through to monitoring of correction chemical levels. As local water authorities can often enforce large fines on facilities discharging outside of their consent levels it is important to ensure that these systems are operating correctly. We have many year of experience with optimising pH correction facilities to reduce chemical and running costs, if you have a pH correction plant or need such a plant then call us to discuss your needs.

Heavy Metal reduction

We have assisted clients over the years build and maintain plants to reduce heavy metal contaminants in their waste water to meet discharge consents. These same problems can also be present with some clients using ground or bore water to supply their facilities. The most common contaminants can include:

  • Iron – causing staining
  • Manganese
  • Zinc
  • Chromium

Similar to water pH often heavy metal levels can form part of discharge consent conditions or can be a requirement for using the water for processing. Often metal levels can be difficult to reduce however we have experience in several processes that have proven to be cost effective and reliable for our clients.

Aquarium Design

Hospitals and Laboratories

Hospitals and Laboratories

We have installed and maintained several Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems in Hospitals in Auckland, these have primarily been used for supplying water to Laboratories and instrument cleaning machines.

Common uses for RO water in Hospitals and Laboratories.•Water for analyser equipment referencing solutions.

  • Contaminant free cleaning water.
  • Water Supply for hospital instrument and equipment washers to reduce or eliminate scale build-up.
  • Boiler water for small scale hospital boilers.

 

 

What is Reverse Osmosis (RO) ?

Typically our large scale design projects are completed in autocad in 3D, this reduces the construction time on site and also reduces clashes with other services. As can be seen from some of the examples entire pool complexes can be modelled and checked prior to installation beginning on site.

Christchurch Civic Centre – Water Feature

PROJECT SUMMARY:

As part of the refurbishment of the new Christchurch City Council Civic building a water feature was constructed at the northern entrance. H2O were involved during the concept development stage of the design of the water feature and later were contracted by the main contractor Hawkins Construction to provide the detailed design, installation and commissioning phase of the contract.

PROJECT DETAILS:

The water feature presented a unique challenge in that the main structure of the facility was already existing. The plant room was situated in a remote part of the basement of the building close to other electrical systems with no gravity drainage available. A high level of water treatment was implemented to reduce chlorine fumes from effecting the basement as well as an automated water dumping system which discharges water from the system during heavy rain.

  • Circulation pump with stainless steel inlet strainer
  • Water jet pump and controls for 3 jet fountains.
  • Water filtration and UV Treatment with Triogen UV.
  • Automated water chlorination and pH control.
  • Automatic water dumping in case of feature flooding during heavy rain.

The Water feature was completed to the allocated budgets and in the required timeframes during the building construction period. We continue to service and maintain this feature today.

Kelly Tarltons – Life Support Systems Refurbishment, Auckland

 

PROJECT SUMMARY:

As part of continued improvements at Auckland’s Kelly Tarltons Underwater World, H2O Engineering was awarded the contract to replace the facility’s sea water filtration system along with upgrades to the Ozone gas distribution and water chilling systems.
The scope included detailed design, installation and commissioning of each of the replaced or refurbished systems.

PROJECT DETAILS:
The Kelly Tarltons plant room environment presented a unique challenge due to the moist salt air environment and space restrictions for new plant. Along with environmental considerations inside the plant room all the works took place while the facility and life support systems were in operation. Careful consideration of materials was required with every aspect of the project to ensure upgraded systems were robust enough for long term service.

  • Demolition and removal of redundant steel sand filter, cut into approximately 20 pieces in situ and removed from site.
  • Installation of 2 x 1400mm diameter fibreglass sand filters with automatic valve harness.
  • Installation of new Aquarium water chilling heat exchanger for the main aquarium.
  • Installation of a new Ozone gas distribution system throughout the facility, including connection to the three main life support systems.
  • Upgrades to water chilling systems on two operational life support systems.

All the contracted works were completed on time and budget during refurbishment works for the main facility aquarium in 2010.
