Wind Tree Sculpture & Water Feature – Wynyard Quarter

PROJECT SUMMARY:

As part of the ongoing development of Auckland’s Wynyard Quarter a water feature was constructed as part of the “Wind Tree” Sculpture that was re-instated from storage. H2O were contracted to provide the detailed design, installation and commissioning of the Water Feature.

CLIENT: Dominion Constructors

PROJECT DETAILS:
The design of the Feature was straight forward with a simple pond like expectation from the Architects. The Water Feature system consists of the following:

  • 2 x Feature pumps with integral inlet strainers
  • Filtration system with Sand Filter and Filter Pump.
  • Automated water chlorination and pH control
  • Automatic mains water make up.
  • Floor sump with submersible pump for flood protection.

The Water Feature was completed to the allocated budget and within the required timeframe. We continue to service and maintain this feature today. As a result of this ongoing service work it was quickly discovered the original filtration system would be unable to cope with the unforeseen dirt loading of the feature due to windblown debris, bird feathers from Seagulls and dirt being carried in from nearby gardens. To overcome this problem a second filter was installed which has resulted in satisfactory operation of the feature.

Auckland Art Gallery Refurbishment – Water Features

PROJECT SUMMARY:
As part of the refurbishment of the Auckland Art Gallery three water features where constructed at various locations. H2O were contracted by Hawkins Construction to provide the detailed design, installation and commissioning of the features.

CLIENT: Hawkins Construction

PROJECT DETAILS:
The design and construction of the water features presented a challenge in that the main structure of the facility already existed or space for plantrooms was already allocated requiring lateral thinking around the use of plantroom space, location of reticulation pipework and the construction of surge tanks. Each of the Water Feature systems is independent and typically consists of the following:

Feature pump(s) with integral inlet strainer(s)
Filtration system with Sand Filter and Filter Pump.
Automated water chlorination and pH control
Automatic mains water top up.
Floor sump with submersible pump for flood protection.
The Water Features where completed to the allocated budgets and in the required timeframes during the building construction period.

We continue to service and maintain this feature today.

Chemical Dosing Systems

Chemical dosing system alternate name chemical water treatment for cooling water, chemical water treatment for chilled water.

Chemical dosing system is widely applied in corrosion, scale inhibition, sterilization and algae removal of the circuiting water systems such as air-conditioning cooling water, chilled water, ice storage, etc.The chemical dosing system can also achieve the effect equivalent to the electronic descaling instrument. In the process of air conditioning circulating water and various purified water, the water quality always decides if the system can run efficiently for a long time.

Aquatic Filtration Systems

One of the most evident effects of a dirty swimming pool or hot tub filter is cloudy water. When the filter becomes clogged the pool water circulation decreases. Without the right water movement, more chemicals are used to maintain clear and enjoyable pool water. Eventually, even the extra chemicals will no longer effectively keep the water clean. As the pressure builds up inside the filter, the pool vacuum will also stop functioning.

Pure Water Treatment

Wherever your raw water comes from; Well, borehole, surface water, river water, sea water, recycled waste streams or potable water from the municipal supply, good pre-treatment is essential to protect your downstream processes and save costs.

Raw water often contains a wide range of water contaminants such as suspended solids, organics, hardness, heavy metals such as manganese, iron, lead and arsenic. All of which must be removed or reduced before introducing the water into your processes.
